VfL Bochum 1848 is reorganising the management of its youth development centre. In the future, the management of academy will consist of three people. Heiko Butscher, who will also continue to coach the U19 juniors, will be in charge of sport. The top management will be completed by Dominik Horsch as Head of Strategy and Development and Timo Saviano as Head of Administration.
The sporting department will also be supported by David Siebers, who will be responsible for squad planning for the U13 to U19 teams, and Maximilian Kögel, who will take on the new role of head of training. The age group range U9 to U12 will continue to be managed by Simon Schuchert and Max Sabottka.
"We deliberately decided on this model in order to meet the challenges in youth football in the best possible way. In the core areas we have defined, we will use absolute experts to give greater weighting to talent and thus to the training of our talents," says Patrick Fabian, Director of Sport at VfL Bochum 1848.
With the reshuffle at the top of the youth department, which was forced by the departure of former NLZ director Alexander Richter, VfL Bochum 1848 once again underlines that continuity is a key feature of its actions. This is because, with the exception of Dominik Horsch, who will move to VfL from the German Football Association on 1 January 2023, all of the people mentioned have already been working for the Talentwerk for years. For Dominik Horsch, who grew up in Bochum and thus with VfL, it is a return home. The new head of strategy and development will be able to contribute his know-how as a well-connected expert in national and international youth football to the Blue and Whites.
