That was important! VfL Bochum 1848 has finally won our first game of the season and is rewarded for the great work over the past few weeks! In Heidenheim, Simon Zoller and Danny Blum extended a 2-0 lead after only a quarter of an hour. After the hosts halved the lead, Silvère Ganvoula re-extended the lead, consolidating the old gap. The second FCH goal in injury time was thankfully only a consolation. An away win!
On the ninth matchday, VfL Bochum 1848 were guests in the Swabian Alps, for a game at 1. FC Heidenheim. Head coach Thomas Reis changed the starting formation slightly in comparison to the 2-2 against SV Darmstadt: Sebastian Maier started, with Miloš Pantović dropping to the bench. Tom Weilandt was back in the squad for the first time since the third matchday. Chung Yong Lee was left out, as he was still not yet ready to play against FCH.
6: VfL has the first big chance of the thus-far quiet match - but Vitaly Janelt heads onto the crossbar.
7: GOAL! That's 1-0 for the VfL! Danny Blum crosses from the left side into the middle. Zoller is in the right position and heads the ball past Müller!
14: GOAL! The VfL doubles its lead. Sebastian Maier lays it on a plate for Blum, after slaloming past red and white clad men, and Blum taps in to make it 2-0 to the guests.
19: VfL are tight at the back. A free-kick by FCH captain Marc Schnatterer from 30 yards is cleared via Ganvoula’s head.
22: Free kick for Bochum: Maier shoots directly from 35 yards, but FCH keeper Kevin Müller holds onto the ball.
23: In a counterattack, the hosts score: Schnatterer takes a free-kick from the right into the penalty area. Robert Leipertz comes to the ball and extends into the far corner: 2-1 for VfL.
26: Danilo Soares dives, searching for a penalty in the FCH penalty area and receives a yellow card.
28: Next booking comes swiftly: Anthony Losilla halts Marnon Busch on the right-hand side - another free-kick for FCH. Schnatterer takes, but Maier stops the ball goalward.
37: The game is currently ticking along. Most of the game is centred around the midfield - no significant actions on either side.
Half time: VfL takes a 2-1 lead into the break. So far, not much has come out of the game from FCH. The Bochumers had had the best chance of the game before the deadlock was broken with Janelt's header onto the crossbar.
46: No changes as the two teams head into the second half.
49: GOAL! 3-1 VfL!!! Ganvoula runs free towards ‘keeper Müller, is ice-cold and curls the ball into the right hand corner.
60: Cristian Gambo makes a last ditch slide to avert danger from Kleindienst. The following corner is headed out the box by Ganvoula.
62: Another chance for the FCH: But Riemann holds the shot from Kleindienst from 15 yards comfortably.
63: Double change for FCH: Mainka and Kerschbaumer come off, with Multhaupt and Schmidt coming on.
68: Now VfL also makes their first change. Thomas Eisfeld replaces Vita Janelt.
72: That was close! Schmidt tries it from the turn, but luckily the ball passes the VfL goal on the left.
73: Second change at VfL: Well-earned break for goal scorer Zoller. Pantovic comes in the game to replace him.
75: Riemann clears against Schmidt by using his foot, the ball hits Gamboa from a short distance to the hand. The Heidenheimers demand penalty kicks, but referee Bacher decides correctly on corner ball.
76: Last change for the home team, naturally offensive: Griesbeck goes out, Schimmer comes.
77: Blum kicks the ball away and sees the yellow card for it.
80: Another ten minutes on the clock: FCH are throwing everything forward, but the Bochum team is committed to defending.
87: Third and last change at VfL. Tom Weilandt is back and replaces Maier in the last minutes.
89: VfL defends passionately, throwing themselves at every event. The tenth corner kick from the Heidenheim team is also defused.
90: Four minutes added time.
90 +3: GOAL! Schimmer halves the deficit for FCH. 3-2!
FT: We have broken the run! VfL wins 3-2 at 1. FC Heidenheim and have their first victory of the season!
