Day 1 at #VfLinBruneck: Off we go, the VfL Bochum 1848 training camp has begun! Thomas Reis and his team arrived at the Ferien- & Wellness-Hotel Windschar in Gais early Sunday evening. Over the next seven days, the Blue and Whites will prepare intensively for the Bundesliga season, which begins in mid-August.
From sun to rain: VfL squad arrives
The plane punctually took off at 3:20pm in Düsseldorf, and just over an hour later the lads landed in rainy Innsbruck. But, the weather conditions didn't put a damper on the good mood. On board the Eurowings flight EW5236 were a total of 26 VfL professionals, including four goalkeepers. The coach will have to do without Eduard Löwen, who is preparing for the Olympics with the German team. Cristian Gamboa and Danny Blum, on the other hand, who have not played in pre-season friendlies so far, have made the trip to the Kronplatz holiday region and are working on their individual comebacks.
A managing Director for Sport, a Chairman of the Board, a Head Coach, eight coaches, three physios, a kitman, a team doctor, six members from the media and content departments - yes, this VfL travel group had it all. Especially as several VfLers were already on site preparing for the arrival of the training camp crew with Andy Pahl, our bus drivers, two colleagues from the marketing team and our security officer. A very busy bus.
Two Friendlies and Nine Sessions
But before you get the impression that we're on a pleasant flying visit to our new top partner, the Bruneck Kronplatz holiday region, you'd be wrong! Here we will be working hard over the next few days. On Monday morning, Thomas Reis will ask his protégés to take to the training pitch for the first time. In addition, the two friendly matches against the Italian representatives FC Parma and FC Torino are on the horizon. By the way, we will show both games as usual via free livestream on our YouTube channel.
Bruneck, Kronplatz, Windschar
New names that you first have to memorise. No, we are not talking about the newcomers Takuma Asano, Michael Esser, Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Patrick Osterhage. Nor do we mean our fitness coach Lucas Kern, rehab coach Benedikt Oppenhäuser or returnee ‘Funny’ Heinemann. Rather, we are talking about the place where we will now be staying for a week. The partnership with the Bruneck Kronplatz holiday region was announced back in August last year. It took some time for the training camp to take place, but now we are finally here. We received a very warm welcome. Numerous VfL flags not only decorate the training grounds, but also the Windschar Holiday & Wellness Hotel, where the professionals are staying.
By the way, if you need some red-hot first information about the region, it's best to take a look at our YouTube channel. Simon Zoller versus Saulo Decarli in the South Tyrol quiz. In the end it was a clear-win for Saulo, but you’ll have to see his impressive knowledge for yourself. We will provide you with the pictures of the region from tomorrow, Monday. Because there is so much to see here. Especially in terms of scenery, South Tyrol can score quite a few points.
