Friendly number one of the training camp! On Wednesday afternoon, Thomas Reis’ men faced Parma in a very hot and sunny Brixen. 10 years after leaving the club, goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon started for the opponents. After a goalless first half, Raman Chibsah scored the goal of the day for VfL ten minutes before the end.
Here’s the ticker from the game:
1': The first chance for Parma after just a few seconds. Bochum were too open on the left. Brunetta, however, fires the ball over the crossbar after a cross from Lacoponi.
8': Free kick for Parma from the left, however this is easy pickings for Riemann.
9: VfL look dangerous on the resulting counter-attack: Asano does well down the right hand side and crosses into the middle. Ganvoula lets the ball run through, but there is nobody there to meet his dummy.
11: A scurry in the VfL box - but Riemann is alert and stays strong to save. He saves from close range and keeps the score for VfL.
18': Another chance for Parma: Brunetta shoots from 20 metres. The ball sails just over the crossbar.
23': Asano does well to cut through the Parma defence and takes a shot on the edge of the penalty area - unfortunately the powerful effort goes well over.
32': Quickly taken free kick by Soares. Antwi-Adjei tries hus luck from an acute angle. Buffon saves well for a corner.
36': Soares with a nice long ball to Asano. He flicks his header towards goal, but Buffon has no problem with it.
Half-time: No goals after 45 minutes. VfL needed a few minutes to find their feet in the game, but then Reis’ team were able to create a few chances. The best chances were Asano and Antwi-Adjei.
46': The second half is underway. Head Coach Thomas Reis makes six changes. New players are goalkeeper Tjark Erst, Armel Bella Kotchap, Maxim Leitsch, Raman Chibsah, Miloš Pantović and Soma Novothny.
53': Antwi-Adjei with a sharp cross from the left. Novothny is waiting in the middle, but Parma clears for a corner.
58': The next changes for VfL. Erhan Mašović, Gerrit Holtmann and Simon Zoller come on for Tesche, Antwi-Adjei and Asano.
67': Zoller does well to find Leitsch, who marches down the left to the baseline. However, his pass to Novothny is blocked by a Parma defender for a corner.
76': GOAL! Novothny and Pantović combine with a beautiful double pass down the right. Milos Pantović then does well to drive down to the touchline and cross into the middle, where Chibsah slots it home for 1:0.
Full-time: VfL remain unbeaten in their summer preparations. After a goalless first half and several changes in the ranks of the Blue-Whites, it was Chibsah who dusted off the ball for 1:0.
VfL: Riemann (46. Ernst) - Gamboa (46. Bella Kotchap), Decarli, Lampropoulos, Soares (46. Leitsch) - Tesche (58. Mašović) - Losilla (46. Chibsah), Osterhage (46. Pantović) - Asano (58. Zoller), Ganvoula (46. Novothny), Antwi-Adjei (58. Holtmann)
Goal: 1:0 Chibsah (76.)
Post match interview
Thomas Reis: In the first 20 minutes we had problems getting into the game, Parma were able to play through our midfield very easily. We reacted to this and did much better. After that, we had good chances with Asano and Antwi-Adjei. All in all, the draw was okay at half-time. In the second half, we did a bit better in terms of football. We stayed calm and controlled more of the game. Then we deserved to take the lead. We made life difficult for ourselves once or twice because we were a bit too risky. We can also work on the last pass. This is on the agenda for the next few days anyway.
