VfL Bochum 1848 has reacted to the injury of goalkeeper Paul Grave and signed a new goalkeeper. Marko Johansson comes from Hamburger SV and will be part of the team until 30/06/2023. The loan of the 24-year-old Swede includes a purchase option.

"Marko Johansson is a young goalkeeper who is capable of development and has a lot of experience at senior level," said Patrick Fabian, the new Director of Sport at VfL Bochum 1848. "He is in a position to join us immediately. Marko has played over 60 games in the highest Swedish league. He will be able to bring his quality to us at the highest level, so we are well positioned at the goalkeeper position."

Marko Johansson's career began in his native Malmö. He moved up to the professional squad at former European Cup finalists Malmö FF in 2015, and his debut came right away at international level, in Champions League qualifying. In 2017, Johansson was loaned to second-division side Trelleborgs FF and, as a regular goalkeeper, earned promotion to the Allsvenskan with the team from the province of Skåne. After a year in the first division, the next loan followed, this time to second-division club GAIS Gothenburg. After playing almost all league games there as well, he went on loan again to Mjällby AIF. In 2020 and 2021, Johansson then played again in Malmö, celebrated the championship in the first year and moved to Hamburg in the middle of 2021, at the start of the German second division season 2021/22. He played seven competitive games for HSV.
