VfL Bochum 1848 are delighted to announce that a deal has been agreed to sign Swiss defender Saulo Decarli. The 27-year-old centre-back most recently played for Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League. He has signed a contract with VfL until 2022. Both clubs have agreed that the fee remains undisclosed. Decarli will take the number five jersey.

Decarli started his career at FC Locarno in his Swiss homeland. After spells at FC Chiasso and Italian clubs AS Livorno and Calcio Avellino SSD, Decarli ended up at Eintracht Braunschweig in 2014. During his time in Lower Saxony, he made 80 competitive appearances (3 goals) over three years before joining Club Brugge in 2017. There he won the 2018 Belgian title and 2019 Super Cup. In the past season Decarli also enjoyed a short UEFA Champions League stint.

Sebastian Schindzielorz, Director of Football at VfL, is delighted with the transfer: "Saulo Decarli knows the Second Bundesliga and its requirements. Over his career he has also gained experience in various international leagues. We are delighted that he has chosen VfL. Saulo Decarli is an experienced central defender who excels in the air with his heading abilities. We are confident that he will help us in the upcoming season".

Decarli is also looking forward to his upcoming opportunity in Bochum: "I am happy that it’s all worked out and that I am now here with VfL. I'm already looking forward to start training and to getting to know my new team mates".
