VfL Bochum 1848 have a new goalkeeper: Patrick Drewes joins the club from 3. Liga side Würzburger Kickers. The 26-year-old made a combined total of 47 appearances for Würzburg and Prussia Münster in Germany’s third division. Drewes’ contract at Castroper Straße runs until 30.06.2021. 

Born in Delmenhorst, Drewes came through the ranks at VfL Wolfsburg and played for their second side for five years. During the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, the year Wolfsburg won the DFB Pokal, he was in the squad although remained an unused substitute. Before moving to the 3. Liga the 26-year-old tried his hand in Switzerland, where he played for FC Wil 1900 and made 32 appearances in the Swiss Challenge League. 

“Patrick Dewes was recently first choice goalkeeper at Würzburg. We’ve been keeping an eye on him for a while now and are impressed with his qualities. He has everything needed to play a good role in the 2. Bundesliga”, said Sebastian Schindzielorz, Director of Football at VfL Bochum 1848.
