VfL Bochum 1848 add to its coaching team: Oliver Barth joins the club as assistant manager from next season. The 39-year-old signed a contract with the club until 2020. Barth has played for VfB Stuttgart, Fortuna Düsseldorf and SC Freiburg, to name a few. As an assistant manager, Barth, who was born in Stuttgart, has also worked VfB Stuggart II as well as SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

In his professional career Barth made 57 Bundesliga and 109 second league appearances. With SC Freiburg he was promoted to the Bundesliga as second division champion in 2009, whereas four years earlier he won the Baden-Württemberg State Cup with the Stuttgart Kickers. In 2017, Barth ended his playing career in order to directly join VfB Stuttgart II as assistant manager. During the 2018/19 season Barth was assistant manager at Greuther Fürth.

Sebastian Schindzielorz, Director of Football at VfL, said: "Oliver Barth will strengthen our coaching team because Heiko Butscher will also be completing his further coaching qualifications over the coming season alongside his work as assistant manager. Both Robin Dutt and Heiko Butscher know and respect Oliver Barth from successful times together at Stuttgarter Kickers and SC Freiburg".
