Thomas Reis (head coach of VfL Bochum 1848): “We knew, that we had to have a lot of patience, because Aue have a really good defence and they look for routes to play deep; but we were really well prepared for this. I do believe that we deserved the win. We tried at halftime to fix a few things, I felt we missed some sharpness to our passes to. Finally we kept a clean sheet today- the team have been waiting for this a while. This is made all the more beautiful of course, because we have beaten Aue, who have been so good so far this season. We can breath a slight sigh of relief, but we know and can see how close the league still is. The victory today was really important.”

Dirk Schuster (FC Erzgebirge Aue’s head coach): “We found the match very hard today. We gave the ball away almost as soon as we’d had won it. After half an hour we were better, and had more joy going forward and had more structure at the back. We had two or three chances in front of goal, but we weren’t able to convert them. In the second half, the mood was flat. We tried to be braver but then we were unlucky in conceding the crucial first goal. After that it was very difficult; we tried everything we could. VfL deserved their victory because they showed more fight in the game.”

Anthony Losilla (VfL Bochum 1848 captain): “I'm proud of the team because we played so well today. We were clearly the better team, although Aue have done exceptionally well so far this season.  We defended high up the pitch together and earned ourselves the three points.  If you look at the standings you can see how tight it is.  Even if we win every game until the winter break, it will still be very tight.   That's why we have to focus on our games and our results and not on how other teams get on.  If we continue to play and fight like this, we can be positive about the weeks and season ahead.  Today we were resolute until the end, we pressed high and made it difficult for Aue to beat our press.  We needed some patience, but in the end we scored two goals and kept a clean sheet.  Of course, it’s great.”

Miloš Pantović (VfL Bochum 1848): “We’ve not been suddenly rescued from our predicament, because we are still down at the lower end of the table and it’ll take a while to get out of the bottom half. But today of course was so important because teams around us also picked up good results, so we had to follow suit. I’ve seen the statistics that we’ve only scored in front of the Ostkurve, and although I’m yet to score, I don’t really care what happens as long as we win games. Now we just want to move forward and play well in Fürth and get three points.”

Manuel Riemann (VfL Bochum 1848): “It’s so much more fun that way. I am happy that we’ve won 2-0 today. In this league everyone is packed so close together, it doesn’t really matter where we are actually placed at the moment in the league. Everyone has their own setbacks. It’s up to us to unite after the match last week and today we united perfectly. I keep saying that we have to keep our standards high and be very alert. Now we move on to the next opponent next week and face new challenges there.”

Danny Blum (VfL Bochum 1848): “It was important to get three points today, so that we didn’t get dragged back into the bottom couple in the table. Other teams below us in the league also won. For us as a team, for the defence and for the goalkeeper, it was good to keep a clean sheet for the full 90 minutes. At some point, the work you do week in week out has to eventually show on the pitch on a match day, and it’s all worth it when we play like we did today. Anyone can beat anyone in this balanced, topsy-turvy league. We can’t let up now, we just have to keep consolidating on performances week after week. We have to work hard until the winter break to pick up more points.”
