Another player from our Talentwerk academy makes the step up at VfL Bochum 1848: Maxwell Gyamfi has signed a contract at the club until 2020. Since 2017, the 19-year-old has been part of the youth setup at Hiltroper Straße. During his time here, the young centre back has made 32 appearances for the club’s U19s, scoring one goal.

Sebastian Schindzielorz, VfL’s Director of Football, gave his thoughts on the news: "We are delighted that in Maxwell the next young player from Talentwerk is taking his first steps in professional football at VfL. This shows that we focus on our own training and introduce our junior players to our first team as soon as possible. We are convinced that VfL is the right club for Maxwell's further development. Gyamfi can be used variably at the back, he can also be used as a central or right defender, as well as a CDM. His development over the last few weeks has been positive, so we want to keep an eye on him."

Gyamfi himself is happy to continue wearing the VfL jersey: "It's a great feeling to know that I can soon be a member of the professional squad. I'm happy about that and hope that I can help the team quickly."
