VfL were close to their first point in the current season, but things finally did not work out. The lads gave in to TSG Hoffenheim with a 3-2 away loss. Simon Zoller’s brace put Bochum in front before Baumgartner and Kabak levelled the score. With two minutes to go Dabbur nodded home for Hoffenheim’s victory.

The first match of the season was dealt with, fully focussed on the upcoming fixture. In the first away game of the campaign VfL Bochum 1848 were travelling to Hoffenheim. A 17,005 crowd in the PreZero Arena attended the match. Head coach Thomas Reis made three changes to the starting line-up compared to last week’s game against Mainz. New signing Dominique Heintz immediately found himself in the first eleven, just like Jordi Osei-Tutu and Saidy Janko. Konstantinos Stafylidis and Gerrit Holtmann were sidelined and therefore not able to play.

That’s how the game went:

1´ Kick-off: Let’s go, lads!

1´ Hoffenheim kicks off and try to attack, Toto fouls Baumgartner.

2´ Angelinos freekick is does not lead to a dangerous scene.

2´ First effort by VfL. Hofmann shoots from a 20 metre distance, straight onto the keeper, but a first warning!

5´ Almost the next chance when Gamboa plays a long ball, Hofmann flicks on. Zoller trys to play a quick through ball to Asano, but it’s an improper pass.

6´ First corner for VfL.

12´ Next GOOOAL for VfL! Again it’s Zolli! What’s going on here?! Another sharp cross from Stöger, Zolli starts in the very right moment and extends the lead! Incredible! Bochum 2, Hoffenheim 0.

14´ Seems like a wild afternoon. TSG pull one back, Baumgartner scores. It’s 2-1.

18´ Approximately 20 minutes played, take a breath. Three early goals, two of them by Zolli, that’s quite decent.

19´ Gamboa fires onto the goal from about 30 metres. – but you cannot always succeed like when he scored his wonder goal against Bayern this February.

22´ Hoffenheim now manage to come more and more into play. Riemann can clear Skov’s effort for a corner kick.

22´ It‘ 2:2. Kabak heads home for the equaliser. Heads up, lads!

34´ Prömel is unchallenged, but his ball missest he target by a whisker.

35´ Best stage of the home side now. We need to watch out not to fall behind.

40´ Could cope with the situation – now we‘re back in the game. Osei-Tutu sidesteps three Hoffenheim players, but is finally stopped by Vogt.

45´ What a pity! Zolli is nearly unstoppable by Hoffenheim’s defence, always findin some space. Next chance with a heade, but this time Baumann can save.

Half-time: Troubled first half. Amazing early stage from VfL‘s point of view with two goals from Zolli. But in the following minutes TSG got better into play consequently managed to level. Further good chances on either side, anything’s possible in the second half.

46´ Kick-off, the match continues. Substitution for TSG, Akpoguma replaces Nsoki, while there are no changes in VfL’s line-up.

49´ Zolli is in great shape today! Next opportunity, nice assist by Asano. Narrow angle, so the ball does not find its way into the net.

52´ Substitution for Hoffenheim.Vogt is injured, Kaderabek is sent on.

58´ Penalty for Hoffenheim. Baumgartner is making his way into the box, Toto grabs his jersey – correct decision.

59´ Riemann saves!!! He hält!! Kramaric goes for the left corner, Riemann is on wide awake and clears! That was so important!! The score remains 2-2!

60´ Chances to score at least one point are still there.

63´ Great attacking play by VfL. Osei-Tutu seems unstoppable when he picks up the pace, Zolli centres the ball, but it’s blocked.

64´ Two corners from Hoffenheim, both are defended properly.

65´ It’s back and forth. Asano is about to put his team in front again, but corner kick.

67´ Asano is up and away on the right wing and can only be stopped by Akpoguma with a tactical foul – freekick and yellow card.

68´ Freekick from Stöger. He trys it from a narrow angle, but the ball goes wide.

72´ Riemann, Riemann, Riemann! Dynamite freekick from Skov, but Riemann flys into the corner and is able to save. And he even manages to save Skov’s rebound!

72´ Heintz is replaced by Lampropoulos, first substitution by VfL. Remarkable debut, Dominique!

76´ Another two substitutions. Förster in, Asano out. Further more, Mašović is sent on for Osei-Tutu.

78´ It’s so important to fight for at least one point.

83´ Riemann saves another shot. Not too long to go and one point is ours, lads!

88´ Goal for Hoffenheim. Dabbur bags the goal that makes it 3-2 for TSG.

90‘ Bitter course of the game. But there are still five minutes left in the additional time! Ganvoula is substituted immediately after the goals against us.

90‘+3 Riemann keeps waiting at the halfway line, repeatedly playin long passes into the box.

Full-time: A late defeat in Sinsheim.TSG Hoffenheim win the match after a late goal from Dabbur. Bochum were close to score their first point this season, but it wasn’t meant to be.
