This Monday 2 September, at 20.30 CEST, VfL Bochum 1848 will conclude 2.Bundesliga's fifth matchday with an evening away match at VfB Stuttgart. Before the clash against the newly-relegated Bundesliga team, interim coach Heiko Butscher and Sporting Director Sebastian Schindzielorz answered questions from the media in today's press conference.

The Ruhr-based side have five absentees for the game: Simon Zoller, Tom Weilandt, Maxim Leitsch (all knocks in training) and Chung Yong Lee (knee) will not be available in Stuttgart due to various injuries. Ulrich Bapoh will also be absent after his red card against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, and will serve the first of a two game suspension. "Particularly offensively we are missing some players", says interim coach Heiko Butscher. "But we still have the option of taking an U19 player with us. We have another training session tomorrow and we'll see how we line up on Monday."

New signing Cristian Gamboa is likely to be ready for action. "He joined us at the beginning of the week and has fitted in well with the team," explains the coach. "He speaks perfect English, is highly motivated and is determined to play. He's made really good impressions so far." He also got a "crash course on how we want to play football. His eyes lit up and he's fit," says the interim coach.

"We don't want to hide"

"VfB Stuttgart is a great club, with a big stadium and a very good team. They are rightly one of the favourites for the title this season," said Butscher, speaking about his former club. "We've been looking intensively at our opponents and have thought about how we want to approach the game in order to exploit the few weaknesses that Stuttgart have. We are focused and want to show our style on the pitch - we don't want to hide."

The focus during the training week was centred on defensive work. "We need stability at the back, as our goal difference shows," says Butscher. "The second half against Bielefeld and Wiesbaden must be the basis - the passion and mentality that we displayed there. We have to do that throughout the entire game and not only after we have given away a half."

No reports when it comes to looking for coaches

Of course, the topic also came up about the search for a new head coach. Sebastian Schindzielorz said this: "The topic of coaches is of course a very important one. Many applicants have come forward, that's quite normal. We're in an ongoing process, but I won't comment on names." The same applies to other new recruits. "It's no secret that we're looking for another option in the offensive area. We are involved in several potential deals and now want to see how things develop by Monday [transfer deadline day]", explains the Sporting Director.
