Thomas Reis (manager VfL Bochum 1848): Congrats to Daniel and his team. We played well in the first 15 minutes and managed to play as we intended to do. We wanted to attack our opponents early. We then deservedly scored the opener but lost control of the match in the following as we didn’t have a good positioning. Braunschweig waited for us to make mistakes and to counterattack. Unfortunately, this worked out well for them when they scored the equalizer. We didn’t defend well in this situation. During the break we decided to play more football again as we made our opponents stronger by playing sloppy passes. Then this odd red card happened. We wanted to be fair sportsmen: my lads tried to convince the ref to change his decision, but it was a strict interpretation of the rules. I don’t think that Silvère did it on purpose. The least thing we could do was to give away the following free kick. I’m very disappointed about the way we played after the sending off for Braunschweig. The plan was to play creative but instead we tried to operate with long balls much too often. In the end, the win for Braunschweig is anything not undeserved at all.
Anthony Losilla (VfL Bochum 1848): From my point of view, we didn’t start too badly and were in control. We scored an early opener but then our opponents had a bit of luck to get back into the game. Before that, Braunschweig didn’t have a chance but after the equaliser we fully lost our grip and made easy mistakes. It’s massively frustrating as I’m convinced that we have been the better team and had more quality in our lines. We clearly gave away the points today.
Simon Zoller (VfL Bochum 1848): I think that we played well in the first half – at least until we conceded the 1-1. We lost the thread a little after the goal and were lucky to go into the break without another goal against us. We wanted to do things better in the second half by changing a couple of small things. Then the red card situation happened and following that Braunschweig were clearly in control. We didn’t find a solution to create any more decent goalscoring opportunities. After all, we lost deservedly.
Simon Zoller on the red card: I passed the ball to my opponent after a foul as a fair play action. I think Silvère misjudged the situation. What followed was very unlucky. We tried everything to persuade the ref to revoke the red card, but he wasn’t allowed to do so.
