Thomas Reis (manager VfL Bochum 1848): When you win 5-1, you might think everything was very good. But I’m also known for looking for the fly in the ointment. We started quite well and created a few chances. We knew that Regensburg are very dangerous with their long balls and Albers playing upfront. Once we weren’t sharp enough, but this season it seems that the teams need something like that from time to time. The equaliser was very helpful. The red card also helped, but when you have a look at the team’s reaction to that and how they kept playing seriously, then the win is also deserved in terms of the result. We are just happy to have opened the even further. But there are still two games ahead and we still need a couple of points. Anyway, we can be proud of us today that we came back. There is still a way to go, but I’m not afraid.

Mersad Selimbegovic (manager SSV Jahn Regensburg): The way we performed today is not acceptable. Everyone must ask themselves whether they deserve to play in this league. We will have to analyse this match in the next few days. We didn’t start very well and still took the lead. Then everything happened quickly, and they equalised out of nowhere. It was symptomatic for us that we made it 2-1 ourselves from their second chance in the game. In the second half, it didn’t look so bad, but then we got the red card. Then we didn’t manage to keep up.

Tarsis Bonga (VfL Bochum 1848): It was a lot of fun to be on the pitch and the be able to play from the start. I’m very happy, even though I still have a lot of room for improvement. But I think I got off quite well. It made me want to do more. Of course, the victory is massively important, and we didn’t want to give Regensburg a chance right from the start. We did that and we want to do the same in Nürnberg.

Robert Tesche (VfL Bochum 1848): It‘s always a great feeling to win 5-1. It was a massively important step for us today. Form me and for us, things are going phenomenally now, we need the goals and the points. We’re happy to take them with us. We’re also happy for the fans who support us with a chorus of car horns. It’s a shame that they can’t be here. Now we have a really tough game in Nürnberg and we want wo win that one, too.

Gerrit Holtmann (VfL Bochum 1848): It was very difficult at the beginning. We really wanted to win after the defeat in Darmstadt, but Regensburg did very well in the opening stages. It was important to hit back before the break and then come out of the break so well. The red card made it easier, of course. The relief is great and we are proud.
