The international break is coming to an end and the next Bundesliga match is just around the corner. On Saturday afternoon (3:30 CET), VfL Bochum 1848 play at the reigning DFB Pokal winners RB Leipzig. Premiere on the side-lines for the new VfL head coach Thomas Letsch. The new coach answered journalists' questions before the match.
Thomas Letsch on…
…the personnel situation: Takuma Asano, Paul Grave, Dominique Heintz and Konstantinos Stafylidis are not fit to play. Stafylidis took part in team training for the first time today, so the match in Leipzig comes a bit early for him.
…about the first week of training: I look back very positively on the first days. Right from the start, the team was very, very open to new ideas and very motivated on the pitch. Every session was a lot of fun. That is the basic requirement for things to go well on match day. I not only have eleven options, but a lot more. That's great for us as a coaching team.
…RB Leipzig: In terms of form, RB Leipzig are the second-best team in the league after Bayern Munich, when it comes to the players in the squad. We know, what to expect. Leipzig have huge quality in their team. In the end, we’ll have to focus on ourselves and must try to compensate potential individual deficits with team unity.
…the chances of each individual player: When a new manager takes over, also the players who didn’t play much before getting a fresh chance. On the other hand, the lads who were on the pitch more often before want to back it up. Almost nobody is set at the beginning, we have a competitive situation. Some players have really surprised me who I hadn't thought about before.
…the number one goalkeeper: I haven’t communicated a clear number one so far. But Manuel Riemann will be in goal for the Leipzig match.
…his instructions to the players: What we need is a clear structure. Everyone has to give 100 percent to fulfil their roles, that's what each single player has to be measured against. We want to defend aggressively and high, but of course not beyond the limit.
…Jacek Góralski: Jacek surprised me absolutely positively. He trained very well throughout the week. He is definitely an option for the weekend. Jacek doesn't hesitate to go one-on-one and puts himself completely on the team's line. However, he is not yet ready to go at full power for 90 minutes.
…Erhan Mašović: Erhan started training today and makes a good impression. He was very successful overall with his national team. You can feel that he has returned with confidence. He is definitely an option for Saturday.
…Lys Mousset: Lys Mousset is not yet at 100 percent, but he also makes a very good impression. He brings a lot of power and will certainly be an option for the starting eleven soon.
…the meeting with Marco Rose: I spoke with Marco Rose on the phone for a little while on Tuesday. But we hardly talked about the game because no one would reveal anything about it anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing him on Saturday and hope that my mood after the game will be better than his.
