VfL Bochum 1848 progressed to the second round of the DFB Pokal on Saturday afternoon after beating amateur host side KSV Baunatal.

In the run-up to the game, Head Coach Robin Dutt made four changes to the 1st XI after last week’s 3-3 draw against local rivals Armenia Bielefeld. Armel Bella-Kotchap and Simon Zoller came into the side in place of the injured Danny Blum and Saulo Decarli. Thomas Eisfeld and Dominik Baumgartner also replaced Vitaly Janelt and Jordi Osei-Tutu in the starting eleven, the latter taking his place on the bench for the first time this season.

Despite going ahead thanks to a penalty scored by striker Silveré Ganvoula, the 2. Bundesliga side found themselves 2-1 down at the break against fifth-tier side KSV. In the second half, the away side fought back, and thanks to two goals in three minutes from eventual man of the match Ganvoula, VfL scraped through.

0': And we're underway!

5': So far, as to be expected. VfL with the majority of the possession in opening stages, but to be fair to the hosts they are not shying away from the occasion either!

10': Not much to note here yet. Baunatal giving a good account of themselves.

17': GOAL for VfL! Ganvoula scores his second in as many games! The striker slots it home from the spot, after Simon Zoller was brought down in the box.

24': Big chance for the home side! VfL have got away with one there. Schaefer leathers it against the underside of the crossbar! Stays one nil.

27': The men from Hessen are giving it a real go here, we have to stay alert.

32': The equaliser. We are level here in Baunatal after Blahout nods in from a corner.

33': The goal came from lax defending on consecutive corners. The first time we got away with it, but we were punished with the next.

35': VfL look to respond immediately. We get two corners on either side, but no player in blue and white can make the decisive difference in the middle.

42': Ganvoula controls the ball in a promising position, after the pass from Baumgartner, but the home side's defence manage to get the block in and steer it away to safety.

45': KSV take the lead. Schrader slots home just before the half.

Half time here in Baunatal, the hosts taking the lead shortly before the break. There’s still time, but we must improve.

46': We are underway again. One change for VfL- Eisfeld comes off, replaced by Tom Weilandt.

48': Two corners at the start of the half for VfL. Lorenz gets on the end of the second, but can't get enough power behind the ball to trouble the KSV 'keeper.

53': We make the change. Dominik Baumgartner comes on for Milos Pantovic.

56': Chance! Maier swings in the free-kick, and Ganvoula gets his head on it! KSV 'keeper Bielert holds on to the effort though.

59': We make our third and final change. Lee, who received a yellow card moments earlier, is taken off. Bapoh replaces him.

69': GREAT CHANCE! Pantovic is so close to levelling the game up. Bielert denies the striker with his foot!

70': GOALLLLLL! THE EQUALISER! Ganvoula gets his second of the game! COME ON!!

73': THE HAT-TRICK! GOAL GOAL GOAL GANVOULA! 2 in 3 minutes for the striker puts us in front!! What a game!

75': Long pause here as Simon Zoller is down after taking a knock. We've used all our subs so this doesn't look good. Fingers crossed.

76': SHOULD BE FOUR! Simon Zoller is up and running again, and he has the chance to make it 4-2! The shot goes wide by a millimetre!

83': GREAT SAVE! A bullet from Losilla is clawed away from the top corner by Bielert! Great save!

84': Another chance for Simon Zoller! He appears free in the box, but the ball spins away from him. Nothing he could do.

90': FOUR minutes of added time for us to hold on to a DFB Pokal first round win.

90+': Late chance for an equaliser for KSV! Luckily, it flies over.

FT in Baunatal, and thanks to a fantastic hat-trick from Ganvoula, we secure passage into the second round of the DFB Pokal with a 3-2 away win against KSV. Yes lads!
