VfL Bochum 1848 are happy to present the latest addition to their squad: Erhan Mašović transfers from Belgian champions Bruges FC to Castroper Strasse, the home of VfL Bochum. The 21-year-old Serb, skipper of his country’s U21 national team, joins on a free transfer  and has signed a contract until 30 June 2023.

Erhan Mašović started his career with Belgrade outfit FK Čukarički, who he played for from 2013 till 2017. At 189 cm, the defender made his debut for Serbia’s U-21s at the age of just 18, and he has been featuring in all his country’s international youth teams.

Erhan played his first professional match at the tender age of 17 for FK Čukarički and he must have impressed the scouts for Belgian top club Bruges to sign him as early as 2017. There followed two loan spells, first with AS Trenčìn in Slovakia, then with AC Horsens in Denmark, for him to get 62 Slovakian and Danish top tier matches under his belt as well as three Europa League qualifiers.

Sebastian Schindzielorz, head of sports at VfL Bochum 1848, stated: “Erhan Mašović is a player of huge potential who has considerable international experience despite his young age. Due to his versatility, he can be played as a central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. Being the skipper of Serbia U-21s, he is used to dealing taking responsibility and, all in all, he is an exciting addition to our squad.”

Erhan Mašović has cancelled the upcoming U21 international matches with Poland and Estonia to be able to acclimatise at his new club: “I’m over the moon with the transfer to VfL Bochum and I look forward to the challenge in Bundesliga 2, which is a league with a very high standard. But first, I need to get to know my new teammates, the club and its footballing philosophy. That’s why I decided not to travel to the U21 team this time.”
