Thomas Reis (VfL Bochum 1848 head coach): It’s quite difficult to work this match out. Of course, it’s a massive disappointment and it feels like a loss. We had a remarkable start to the game, but still we didn’t appear to be one hundred percent confident. We committed a number of unnecessary fouls and gave away way too many freekicks. In the second half we managed to go in front and even doubel our lead. Both goals against us in the second half were penalties for handballs – the second one was a joke. It hurts so much today, but we have to bounce back. Next week we need to keep on going into games picking up points.
Uwe Koschinat (SV Sandhausen head coach): It’s extremely difficult to sum this game up in just a few words. The fact is that, thanks to dreadful individual errors – we were walked all over by VfL. The positive thing is that we stuck to our matchplan and kept on attacking aggressively, and we were able to create some goalscoring chances. When we got one back straight after they went 2-0 up, we were back in the game. After the 2-2 equalizer, we held on to the draw until the half-time break. Things went a litte differently after the break when we unfortunately conceded two goals within a very short period of time. The team did not give up though. In the end we picked up a fortunate point for showing great spirit.
Manuel Riemann (VfL Bochum 1848): If you look at the first half, we needed to be even more clinical with our chances. Our lead should have even been even greater. 2-2 at halftime, that must not happen. We could’ve sealed the deal in the first half, so then those two penalties at the end wouldn't have even mattered. We need to break that match down and improve for the upcoming fixtures.
Jordi Osei-Tutu (VfL Bochum 1848): For sure, we’re really disappointed not to pick up a victory today. We had quite a good start to the game and were playing some quality football, but we made a few too many little errors. We should have stopped them from getting back into the game. But we need to keep moving forward despite all the disappointment.
Anthony Losilla (VfL Bochum 1848): I even cannot find any words for what just happened. I did not see the ball and it was a penalty, the referee had no doubt about that. We are not able to play consistently over the full 90 minutes. We were in control of the game and still were scared of losing everything. We have to get rid of that. We gave away way too many dead ball situations, which finally swung the balance of the game. In general we concede too many goals in the dying minutes of the games, and that’s not by accident. Four gouls should be enough to beat an opponent, and we could have even scored more.
