All-square at the Böllenfalltor! VfL Bochum 1848 came away with a point after travelling to a well-organised SV Darmstadt 98 side this Saturday. Danny Blum had the best opportunity before the break, the ball just dragged wide of the goal. There were not many chances for the players, with the sides sharing the points and the result was a fair result.
Compared to the previous home game against SV Sandhausen (4-4), VfL head coach Thomas Reis made one change to the starting XI. Saulo Decarli was forced to miss out due to illness, and Vasileios Lampropoulos, signed in the winter transfer window, moved into the starting line-up to replace him for his first league start for the Blau-Weißen. Simon Zoller also returned to the squad.
4' Huge chance to make it 1-0! Super work from Jordi to break on the counter and lay Blum in, who drives thirty yards before his side is dragged just wide of the post! Close!
9' Chance for Darmstadt, but the shot from the exceptionally fair-haired Holland is high and wide.
13' Nice move from the Blau-Weißen (well, Roten today!) Jordi's cross is deftly chipped in but Schuhen is quick off his line to avert danger.
18' Good spell of possession and dominance from VfL. Schuhen plucks another cross out of the air but we've definitely started the better of the two sides in the first twenty.
23' The Osei-Tutu/Holland battle on the right-wing/left-back is looking tasty. The Bochumer spins the 29-year-old, but runs into traffic and SVD are able to clear. Jordi then puts in a crunching tackle on the home side's captain. Foul.
32' 15 minutes or so left in the half. Relatively quiet on the chances front, the sides look pretty even, with VfL perhaps looking the more likely. A Ganvoula cross flashes across the box, just ahead of an onrushing Danny Blum.
34' Mistake by Riemann, and SVD look threatening and break on an out of place VfL defence, but Tesche does excellently to track back and cut out a big chance. Dursun then goes through... flashes wide!
36' Darmstadt have definitely grown into this game, and look to finish the half the stronger and on the front foot.
37' Speculative shot from the halfway line from Stark, who is sporting some serious goggles. He shoots having seen Riemann off his line, but his shot is well off.
42' Lampra' is booked for clipping Bader, 35 yards out. Harsh. Free-kick. Kempe swings it in... Ganvoula heads it away. SVD come back and Tesche has to block again.
43' Holland pulls back Jordi. Goes in the book. Jordi rightly furious as he was driving with real attacking verve toward the final third.
43' SVD break quickly... Holland is played through and he slices his shot wide, hitting the side-netting.
HT: Towards the end of the half things picked up, after a slight lull. Both teams are defending well, whilst also both lacking any real attacking verve in the final third.
46' And we're back underway. Huge 45 minutes coming up. No changes at the break.
62' Darmstadt mighty close to an opener, Riemann brilliantly tipping over Palsson's sumptuous flick off a corner over the bar.
64' Janelt with a silly yellow card after swatting the ball away with his hand about half a yard away from the referee.
65' SVD knocking on the door, with only a diving block from a Bochumer preventing them opening the scoring. Corner is headed over.
68' Darmstadt with yet another corner. Kempe swings in.... and headed over again, this time by Platte.
70' Ganvoula heads just over from a Janelt corner! Chances at both ends here!
73' Ganvoula wins a free-kick 40 yards out, after showing incredible strength to hold the ball up whilst Dumic clambered all over him. Ball in... offside.
74' Another SVD change. Paik comes on for Stark.
75' Zoller heads wide at the near post. Into the last 15 and still no goals in this one here.
76' Rapp takes a shot from Zoller smack bang in the face. Ouch.
80' Corner swung in... Janelt so close to scoring on the turn after a shot from distance bobbles to him! Darmstadt clear.
84' Janelt skies from three yards! He should have scored. He's flagged offisde but would have been reversed with VAR because he was a yard on. Third change for SVD made; Heller on for Mehlem.
88' Jordi cuts inside, looking to replicate last weekend's goal, but his left-footed shot slides just wide.
90+' Ganvoula offside as he runs through.
FT: VfL snuffs out a counter from Darmstadt and that's it! VfL ends the Lilies' winning streak. Danny Blum had the biggest chance for Bochum in the early stages of the match, but it ends here 0-0.
