The women of VfL Bochum 1848 were unable to defend their SparkassenMasters title from 2020. At this year's finals in Bochum's Rundsporthalle, Kyra Malinowski's team was beaten by Union Bergen in the final.

After a two-year break from the Corona, the team finally took to the floor again in Bochum. In the preliminary round, which took place last weekend, the VfL won five matches and came out on top in Group A. The first and second places were taken by the two teams. The first and second places in each group qualified for the final round, which was held yesterday.

In the semi-finals, the Bochum girls met the runners-up of Group B, SV Waldesrand Linden. The VfL made the final perfect with a clear 5:1 victory. In the other semi-final, Union Bergen beat Teutonia Ehrenfeld. It came down to the eagerly awaited final between the two best women's teams in Bochum. Here, the Landesliga team won narrowly but deservedly with 2-1 and thus won the Bochum Sparkassenmasters.

"It was a great tournament in front of a big crowd. We would have liked to take the trophy home, but we also have to acknowledge that Union Bergen is the deserved winner today," the Bochum women said fairly.
