Since last week there’s war in Ukraine and therefore in the middle of Europe. Numerous people are fleeing, others have already fallen victim to the war. Families are separated and there is unimaginable suffering. VfL Bochum 1848 is shocked by the events and takes a clear stand on this issue. It condemns the Russian invasion and expresses its solidarity with Ukraine and its people. Bochum and Ukraine have a special connection. VfL has been twinned with Donetsk for 35 years.
In addition to this clear stance, which has already been communicated in recent days via social media and during the home game against RB Leipzig, concrete measures for support are now to follow. To this end, VfL is once again calling on the BOCHUM COMMUNITY to help. More than ever, the motto "HERE, WHERE THE HEART STILL COUNTS" is to be filled with life. Together with the entire VfL family, an important contribution to the support of the people in Ukraine can succeed. In order to provide support as directly as possible and in line with the needs, three projects have been set up which will begin one after the other.
Starting today, VfL will support the "Bochum-Donezk Society" with donations in kind. These can be handed in at the following times:
- At the home game against SC Freiburg on March 2, 2022:
From 5:00pm to 8:15pm (CET), two VfL donation vans will be available. These are located at Quellenweg (by the tennis courts) and RuhrCongress (rear)/ athletics field. They are marked with the writing "VfL-Spendenwagen".
- Ostkurve Meeting on March 3, 2022:
Donations can be dropped off at the Ostkurventreff (Castroper Str. 145) from 11:00am to 3:00pm (CET).
- Home game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on March 5, 2022:
From 12:30pm to 3:15pm (CET), two VfL donation vans will again be available. These are located at Quellenweg (by the tennis courts) and RuhrCongress (rear)/ athletics field. They are marked with the writing "VfL-Spendenwagen".
The donations will be handed over at the beginning of next week to the "Bochum-Donezk Society", which will deliver them directly to Ukraine by aid transport.
However, it is essential to follow the list of required items below. Of course, the donated items can also be handed over directly to the organization.
In the coming days, a donation campaign for other aid organizations via our partner betterplace.org and a sales campaign, the proceeds of which will also benefit the "Society Bochum-Donezk", are also planned. Further information will follow.
A big thank you already goes to the VfL family for their support and especially to the numerous organizations that do such valuable work.
Our thoughts are with all Ukrainians, their relatives, and friends.
