The break for international caps is over, it’s back to Bundesliga football when VfL welcome Hertha BSC on Sunday. This one is going to be a tough nut, as the visitors are eager to gain ground after a slow start to the season. Here’s our LOOK AHEAD on the upcoming fixture.

Hertha have been shooting for the moon, which showed their investments in the recent years. Many millions of euros were pumped into the club, made possible by the financial support of Lars Windhors, and his Tennor Holding company. ‘The old lady’ is currently at the very bottom of the table having scored no points so far. Reason enough to improve the squad during the international break and before the transfer window was closed. Matheus Cunha (Atletico Madrid), Dodi Lukebakio (Wolfsburg) and Javairo Dilrosun (Bordeaux) left Germany’s capital. New signings are forward Myziane Maolida and midfielder Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Striker Ishak Belfodil even made his first appearance for the club. So, there’s a lot going on in team from Berlin who were already joined by top players Stefan Jovetic, Kevin Prince Boateng and Suat Serdar this summer.

373 official games and with 286 appearances in the top flight Berlin’s record appearance maker, Pál Dárdai, who took over the club in January for the second time. In the previous season he even saved the club from relegation after a remarkable finish. This season he is supposed to finally put the capital back on the track. But his emotional rapture after the 5-0 defeat in Munich had the opposite effect when he called his own position into question after the third loss in a row. Now the transfer period has ended, and he needs to turn things around with the help of lots of new players at casinofiables.com.

The balance between Bochum and Berlin is even. Each side racked up 19 victories, 12 times the match ended in a draw. But you have to look back for several years to find VfL’s last win – 12 years to be precise. It was 3rd matchday of the 2009/10 season – Bochum’s last Bundesliga season prior to this one – when the lads beat Hertha 1-0 with Anthar Yahia scoring the goal of the day. The recent clash has not been that long ago. In the 2019/20 pre-season both clubs faced right before their leagues started. The result was a 1-1 draw. VfL’s goal scorer at that time was Danny Blum after an amazing freekick.

In their second home match of the season, VfL Bochum 1848 were beaten 1-3 by Hertha BSC, despite a very decent performance. Thomas Reis' team just did not have enough power up front, while the visitors mercilessly punished our mistakes at the back. Suat Serdar scored twice shortly before the break before Simon Zoller scored a tap-in to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute. With VfL pushing forward, Hertha hit them on the counter-attack through substitute Maolida for their third goal after 79 minutes.

Here's the live ticker from the game:

4': The first shot is taken by the Boys in Blue. Losilla volleys the ball headed by Boyata but does not really trouble Schwolow because his shot is too central.

7': Berliners are very physical from the start with five fouls after only seven minutes without being shown

8': One of these fouls results in a free kick, which Löwen takes. Hits the outside of the net.

17': Great defending by Lampropoulos. Richter comes at him with pace, but the Greek cleverly puts his body in. That could have been dangerous.

19': Strong scene from Rexhbecaj, who crosses from the left after a solo run. Zoller connects with a flying header but cannot direct the ball at goal – that was close.

22': Down the other end, Richter shoots from 20 metres after Elvis loses the ball. His shot goes wide.

27': Holtmann makes a great run down the left, but his cross does not find Polter and Zoller.

37': Goal for Hertha out of nowhere. Serdar is able to dribble through the midfield too easily and then, after a feint, sidefoots the ball into the right corner.

43': 0-2 to Hertha. After a long throw-in by Jastrzembski, Bella Kotchap and Lampropoulos hesitate, Serdar gratefully shoots in the near corner.

46': Dardai makes two changes and brings on Mittelstädt and 17-year-old Bundesliga debutant Gechter while Torunarigha and Jastrzembski remain in the dressing room. VfL remain unchanged.

47': Tousart sees the first yellow card of the match after a foul against Rexhbecaj.

54': Mittelstädt is also cautioned after coming in late onZoller.

55': After a few unsuccessful attempts by Löwen, Stafylidis now has a go from a free-kick. Not bad, but Schwolow manages to push it away.

57‘: Maolida on for Richter.

59': GOOOAL for VfL Bochum and the place is shaking! As against Mainz, Holtmann with an excellent solo run again, Schwolow prevents the dream goal by sticking out a foot but Zoller is in the right position and slots home.

63': First change for VfL. Losilla makes way for Tesche.

64': VfL are now pushing forward, especially through Holtmann. His sharp cross is just cleared by Boyata before Polter can connect.

73': Hertha hardly come out of their own half, but the Boys in Blue can't find the gap.

75': Zeefuik receives a yellow card 15 minutes before the end of normal time for time wasting.

78': Goal for Hertha - 1-3. For the third time, VfL fail to intercept when Maolida makes a run from the halfway line before leaving Riemann no chance from 20 yards.

82‘: Reis sends on Bockhorn, Decarli und Antwi-Adjei for Stafylidis, Bella Kotchap and Holtmann.

85‘: A header by Decarli is smothered by Schwolow.

90': Full-time here.

Despite a courageous performance, VfL Bochum lose due to defensive weaknesses and will travel to record champions Bayern Munich next Saturday.

Thomas Reis (VfL Bochum 1848): "We set out to do a lot and you could see that. Then, unfortunately, it happens that we only accompany Serdar and Hertha play off his individual class. Their second goal was a tough one to take before halftime, I would have liked a decision on foul as well. The crowd was absolutely behind us, so we wanted to put everything in again in the second half. We were just a bit sloppy. I can't blame the team."

Pal Dardai (Hertha BSC): "It was important for us to get points today and stand tall as a team. I can only praise the players, they were passionate. For Bochum, it was of course bitter - they put us under pressure and got three goals with few shots. That's football."

Eduard Löwen (VfL Bochum 1848): "Football’s like that. We played well, especially in the first half, and we had our chances. We didn't use them, and the opponent then punished our mistakes - ice-cold. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves, but then we concede. We have to look at ourselves and it's our own fault.

Konstantinos Stafylidis (VfL Bochum 1848): "Honestly, I'm speechless, but that's football. We just didn't have the luck today and Hertha scored three goals with three shots. But that’s no good, the game is over. We have to look ahead and prepare for the next few weeks."
