Good news for VfL’s goalkeeping unit: In addition to Andreas Luthe, also Philipp Heerwagen has extended his contract with VfL Bochum 1848. The 26- year- old shot- stopper has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the 30th of June 2013.
Philipp Heerwagen joined VfL Bochum 1848 from SpVgg Unterhaching in summer 2007. While he was plagued with several injuries during his first year at the Castroper Straße, he just demonstrated his capabilities as he dislodged Daniel Fernandes as the first-choice goalkeeper one season later. “Philipp has handled the setbacks he suffered quite well and fought his way up to the top,” Thomas Ernst, member of the VfL Bochum board of management, comments on the contract renewal. “With Philipp and Andi Luthe, our goalkeeping unit is well staffed now. They are not only skilled but are great characters too.”
Heerwagen, who was born in Bavaria, has played for the youth teams of Unterhaching and FC Bayern Munich. In 2002/03, Heerwagen played a considerable role in the team that was promoted to the second Bundesliga division. He has made 123 second division appearances for Unterhaching before he joined VfL Bochum in 2007.
“I feel like a part of the Bochum family and I like living here. VfL Bochum strive for ambitious goals I really identify myself with. VfL Bochum offer me the chance to make progress in my role as a Bundesliga goalkeeper,” Heerwagen stated.
