Shortly before the transfer window closes, VfL Bochum 1848 announce that Lewis Holtby will be joining the club on loan until 30th of June 2011 with immediate effect. VfL Bochum 1848 and FC Schalke 04 have reached a loan agreement for the 19- year- old midfielder.
Thomas Ernst, member of the VfL Bochum board of management, is happy about the deal. “In summer, Lewis was at the top of the wish list of all Bundesliga clubs. He will be a real asset to our VfL.”
VfL head coach Heiko Herrlich, who knows Holtby from his time as Germany Under-19 coach, is convinced of Holtby’s skills. “Lewis is a very agile and clever player and he has a nose for goal. He is the perfect match for us.”
Holtby joined FC Schalke from Alemannia Aachen in summer 2009. He has made nine Bundesliga appearances for Magath’s team and was a part of two DFB Cup matches for Schalke. “I am very glad about the deal. When I was at the rewirpowerSTADION one week ago, I really liked the atmosphere here. The supporters are close to the pitch and the air is filled with the smell of Currywurst. I am really keen on staying up with VfL and then start to attack next season,” the midfielder says.
Lewis Holtby will join the team training on Monday, 1st of February 2010.
